I. STOP SMOKING CLINICS
II. SINGLE SESSION SEMINARS
III. COMMUNITY SEMINARSJoel Spitzer has been conducting Stop Smoking Clinics for many major corporate employers throughout the Chicago area since 1977. Corporate clients have included Allstate Insurance Company, Aon Corporation, Brunswick, Chicago Sun Times, Corboy and Demetrio, Kraft, Fel-Pro, G.D. Searle, Morton International, NBC, NutraSweet, Commonwealth Edison, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, American Hospital Association, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, S & C Electric, Northwestern University, Zenith Data Systems and many others.
Mr. Spitzer has conducted hundreds of worksite and community clinics with over 4,500 graduates. His quit rate, usually over 50% off at one year, is consistently above the national average for professional programs. NORTH SHORE MAGAZINE named Joel Spitzers program the areas #1 clinic in 1986. Our options include the following services:
Our intensive Stop Smoking Clinic consists of six sessions over a two week period: Tuesday through Friday, Monday, Monday. The first day is an introductory session of two hours for all employees and members who are even considering quitting; the following five sessions are 90 minutes. Unlike others, our clinic has several particularly strong features. We have 5-10, often lengthy, telephone consultations with each participant during and after the clinic. Each person receives, indefinitely, especially prepared emails for support. Individuals have access to a 24-hour live hot-line and may attend, at no cost, any Joel Spitzer, Ltd community clinics for reinforcement or should they go back to smoking. One session is also devoted to avoiding weight gain.
We are highly successful since participants go "cold turkey" on day one and, to prevent relapse, they have maximal support throughout any withdrawal and thereafter. This approach compresses physical withdrawal to the shortest period and substantially increases long-term quit rates. If individuals are on nicotine replacement gum or patches, they use our clinic to get off these devices on the first day and remain nicotine free thereafter.
Work-site clinics can be held during long lunches, totally on company time, split between company and employee time, or entirely after work. We suggest that employees pay at least a portion of the cost even if the employer rebates some or all to those who quit smoking. Also, consider opening the clinic to spouses and adult dependents who are covered by your medical plan. The total charge for an on-site clinic is $3,200 (plus travel charges for any site over 15 miles from the Northern Evanston area) for up to 25 participants. To guarantee reserving a date, we require a $600 deposit which is not refunded if the clinic is canceled less than 30 days in advance.
Special single two-hour seminars inform smoking employees of ways to cope with an increasingly nonsmoking world and, if they wish to quit, provide specific tips to follow if they wish to try on their own. Participants receive additional services:
1. self-help DVD with over 10 hours of video lessons, 149 page Quit Smoking Book, and over 100 reinforcement articles
2. support e-mail follow up; and
3. access to hot-line and email support.
This option is $400 per group (plus travel charges for any site over 15 miles from the Northern Evanston area).
These seminars can often be scheduled on relatively short notice.
Many smokers need help when they are ready to quit! Therefore, a viable ongoing option is to refer employees to our regular seminars conducted for the Evanston Department of Health and Human Services. They are held frequently enough to meet peoples needs whenever they are motivated to quit. Accordingly, many companies refer employees to attend these community seminars.
We would be pleased to discuss smoking seminars or clinics for your employee group.
